Jamie Blackport, Founder, CEO, and President

​Jamie has a 20+ year commercial and medical affairs global pharmaceutical career and specializes in successfully helping small and mid-sized bio-pharma companies commercially develop, transact, and launch products worldwide.
He started Mirador Analytics with the fellow founders as they saw healthcare organisations needed support to realize the full potential of their data and analyses. Offering that support would in turn help support innovation and growth in the industry and advance global healthcare.
Jamie's involvement in Health Data Compliance work includes service strategy, project management, liaising with clients and overseeing the projects.

As COO, Jamie is responsible for all of Mirador’s operational activities and also manages our client services functions.
His role includes building and coordinating the implementation of new business processes and strategies across functions to grow the organization effectively. His roles also includes the coordination of our marketing, brand strategy, and communications efforts.​
Jamie has been with Mirador Analytics since the company founding, giving him an in-depth knowledge of Mirador’s past, present, and future activities. He has held various roles during this time, both customer facing and behind the scenes developing our infrastructure. His interests lie in business strategy, optimization, and customer relationship development

Nick Antoniadis, ​Director, Strategic Partnerships

Nick is an accomplished and passionate sales and marketing executive with over 20 years’ leadership experience.  He has led marketing teams for the introduction and growth of major multinational pharmaceutical brands. Built and aligned sales team through a collaborative approach, leveraging strong interpersonal skills to engage, motivate and encourage others to exceed performance. He has developed strong, collaborative partnerships, both locally and globally, with key internal and external senior stakeholders, and as a member of several global marketing teams and initiatives. 
 
Nick will coordinate efforts in North America as Director, Strategic Partnerships and will be responsible for customer relationship engagement, development and growth.

Paul Bayless, Head of Product

As Head of Product, Paul is responsible for the development of tools and technology that enhance our offerings at Mirador. 
Paul has extensive experience working in the healthcare data and technology industry.   He most recently worked at Datavant performing Product and Implementation functions, in an organization connecting the world’s healthcare data through the use of their proprietary tokenization software; before that he was at Universal Patient Key as VP of Technology and Operations. 
Paul is based in the US and has access to our client base to support discussions on our project work as well as product development.

​Ashleigh Maxwell, Senior Project Manager

​Ashleigh is the Senior Project Manager within the health data compliance team. She is involved in project coordination and client management as well as implementing systems and processes that will contribute to our overall offerings.
Ashleigh studied Immunology and Microbiology at undergraduate level at the  University of Strathclyde and then went on to gain her PhD in molecular microbiology at the University of Aberdeen. After working as a researcher and lecturer at the Scottish Rural College, Ashleigh then went on to work at Covance Clinical Biotech (previously Chiltern) and then Syneos Health (previously INC) where she developed her business and project management experience.

Andrew McIntyre, Project Manager

​As Project Manager, Andrew is involved in coordinating the delivery of our data services, working closely with the data science team and clients to ensure their needs are met. He also works alongside the COO and Senior Project Manager to develop and enhance our internal processes.
After graduating with a BSc (hons) from the University of Dundee, Andrew went on to join Quotient (an Edinburgh-based medical device manufacturer) as a Project Specialist and subsequently Associate Project Manager. From there he moved on to Syneos Health (previous INC) where he developed his project management skills further and gained experience in the area of clinical research.

Emma Playford, Project Coordinator
Picture
Emma is a Project Co-ordinator, working as part of the Project Management team. She is involved in co-ordinating the delivery of our data services, working alongside the COO and Senior Project Manager to develop and enhance our internal processes. She also works closely with the data science team and clients to ensure their needs are met.
​Emma has a BSc (Hons) degree in Forensic Biology and initially joined Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA) as a Laboratory Technician to gain some practical experience in an ISO:17025 certified laboratory after graduating. Following this, she spent 4 years working for Charles River Laboratories as an Assistant Scientist and then a Lead Analyst. Her Lead Analyst role within the GMP Biologics group involved quasi Study Director work: working with new/recurring clients to set up new studies, writing Study Plans, generating Project Cost Estimates and ensuring that their studies ran to the tight timelines required in GMP study work.

​Grace Smith, Legal Counsel, Data Privacy and Compliance

​After studying law at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Grace trained at international law firm CMS, qualifying as a solicitor in 2016. Prior to joining Mirador, Grace worked as an Associate at CMS in their Planning and Environment team, and in an in-house legal team for an investment management company.  In her role at Mirador, Grace works with the Health Data Compliance team to understand how clients process and use data to ensure compliance with the appropriate regulations. She is also working on developing Mirador’s internal resources.

Guido Plano, Information Technology Support Specialist
​Guido has 10+ years’ experience within the IT sector, providing end user support and managing the information technology, security and network infrastructure across different companies in Europe in a wide variety of technology.
​As IT support specialist, Guido is responsible for establishing and maintaining the company’s IT infrastructure to ensure security and reliability while also providing day-to-day technology support across the organization.

Alice Little, Office Manager
Picture
As office manager, Alice manages Mirador's internal policies and procedures, keeping them up to date and in line with relevant regulations.
Alice came to Mirador with many years working in the pharmaceutical sector as a Senior Clinical Trials Administrator and Compliance Associate. Within that time, Alice delivered in-house compliance training as well as developing her own understanding of the ABPI 'Code of Practice' (PMCPA) Alice brings the skills and experience to provide a holistic approach to managing both the office and the Mirador team, providing all areas of business support and organisation. 
Alice looks forward to developing practices at Mirador and integrating them into our everyday workings.

Data Analysis and Statistics

​Colin Moffatt, Chief Data Scientist

​Colin is our Chief Data Scientist and statistician. He oversees and works on our statistical risk analyses and also builds completed reports.
Colin has 20 years’ experience in statistics and data analysis, having analysed the data for over 30 scientific publications and taught applied statistics to university students of all levels. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society with GradStat status and has an MSc in Data Science from Lancaster University. He has expertise in a variety of methods in statistical modelling, machine learning and data mining, being a long-time user of the software R.
Colin's background is in applied biology in which he holds a PhD from Imperial College London and an MRes from Lancaster University. He is a regular reviewer of submissions to several scientific journals and is an honorary lecturer at De Montfort University, Leicester.

​Kirsty MacRuary, Senior Data Scientist - Unstructured Data Specialist

​Kirsty is one of our in-house data scientists. She works on our HIPAA Statistical Disclosure Risk Analyses and within other Health Data Compliance projects.
Kirsty previously worked at Sainsbury’s Bank as a Modelling Analyst within the Credit Risk department. This position involved researching, developing, implementing and monitoring predictive statistical models using credit risk quantitative techniques.
Prior to this Kirsty worked at ISD (part of NHS NSS) as an analyst and statistician within Public Health and Intelligence. Her role involved collecting, collating and carrying out complex data analyses in support of management and customer requests, as well as generating reports on her work.
Kirsty’s entry into the world of statistics and data analysis came during her research and completion of her PhD in Chemistry funded by Johnson Matthey plc, Anglo American and the EPSRC.

​Paul Symmers, Senior Data Scientist - Special Projects

Paul works in the Data Science team at Mirador, and oversees a range of projects, including the privacy assessment of modelling or machine-learning techniques carried out on PHI, review of tokenization privacy, and the privacy risk in using synthetic data.  In addition he also carries out HIPAA disclosure risk assessments and helps design our data products.
Prior to working at Mirador and after gaining a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, he has worked in multiple sectors including energy and telecoms.  This includes both statistical and process analyses as well as implementation of machine-learning architectures, designing a knowledge graph for a pharmaceutical organization and creating analytics processes for transformation programmes.

​Lisa Patrick, Data Scientist

Lisa works within the data science team at Mirador. Her role involves the assessment of client data carrying out HIPAA disclosure risk analyses, and related health compliance work.
Prior to starting her work at Mirador, Lisa completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh working in the field of structure based drug-design, which was in collaboration with pharmaceutical company UCB

Dermot Mc Ateer, Data Scientist

​Dermot works in the Data Science team at Mirador analysing statistical Disclosure Risk and assessing machine-learning techniques for application to deidentified health information.  Dermot has recently completed his PhD in Mathematics, working on analytic and numeric methods in Quantum Field Theory and has held previous roles as a technology consultant and data analyst in the technology and financial sectors.

Katherine Edgly, Data Scientist

Katherine works within the Data Science team at Mirador, focusing on the analysis of statistical disclosure risk in accordance with HIPAA. Before coming to Mirador, Katherine studied Applied Mathematics at Brown University (USA) and completed an MSc in Computational Applied Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. Katherine has also previously worked in the financial sector, where her roles involved applying machine learning and deep learning methods to time-series and image data.

Anca Ionescu, Data Scientist

​Anca is part of the Data Science team at Mirador. Her role is to analyse the statistical disclosure risk present in health datasets and to assess the extent of de-identification as per HIPAA requirements.
Anca recently completed a MSc in Data Science. Before starting her full-time role, she undertook a summer placement at Mirador. Based on her placement she submitted a MSc dissertation on “Quantifying Data Utility of De-identified Health Datasets”, which explored the relationship between data utility and disclosure risk in the context of health datasets

​Ksenia Aleksankina, Data Scientist
​PhD, MChem (Hons)
Ksenia is a member of the Mirador Analytics Data Science team. Ksenia previously worked as a Data Scientist in a cross-functional team in an Edinburgh based tech start-up. Her responsibilities included designing, creating and maintaining data pipelines, providing data science support for product development, and creating data-driven components of the customer-facing product. She worked on a variety of data analysis and data modelling projects.
Ksenia completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. Her research concentrated on developing methods for uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis in models used for policy decision making in areas related to atmospheric pollution and its effects on human health and ecosystems.

Greg Chadwick, Data Scientist

Greg is a graduate in MSc Applied Data Science and Statistics from the University of Exeter with a background in Accounting and Finance. Greg's MSc dissertation was completed in collaboration with the Met Office focused on a Bayesian approach to quantifying uncertainty in the monitoring of atmospheric water vapour.

Stuart Watt, Data Scientist
MSc, BSc (Hons)
Stuart joins the Mirador team after completing an MSc in Data Science at Robert Gordon University supported through a scholarship with The Data Lab (https://www.thedatalab.com/). Stuart's Msc project was titled “Integrity Management Data Visualisation”, completed in parallel with a placement in the oil and gas industry. Prior to Stuart's MSc, he completed a BSc (Hons) in Physics at the University of Aberdeen.

Jonathan Cullen, Data Scientist
PhD, MASt, MPhys​ (Hons)
Jonathan works within the Data Science team, assessing statistical disclosure risk of client data in accordance with HIPAA.
Before Mirador, Jonathan completed his PhD in theoretical particle physics at Durham University, with his research focused on precision calculations, using general extensions of the current best theory of fundamental physics as a method to search for physics beyond what is currently understood. Before this, Jonathan graduated with a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and an integrated master’s degree in Theoretical Physics from Durham University.

Michael Barrowman, Data Scientist
MSci
​Michael is a member of the Mirador Analytics Data Science Team. He has over 7 years of experience working in the education and healthcare sectors in a variety of data and research roles, including the teaching of data analysis to a wide range of audiences. He is currently finalising his PhD in Medicine at the University of Manchester with a thesis titled "Multi-State Clinical Prediction Models In Renal Replacement Therapy", where he focused on the development and validation methodologies of such models. Prior to that he graduated from Lancaster University after completing an MSci dissertation project investigating the Prime Number Theorem and the Riemann zeta function.

James Gow, Associate Data Scientist
​James works with the data science team on projects regarding new applications of HIPAA on patient privacy and examining developing legal and regulatory frameworks for data privacy in relation to deidentification and anonymization.
While working at Mirador, James is completing his baccalaureate degree in the field of biochemistry at Dartmouth College.

​Michelle Whittle, Data Analyst and Proofreader
Michelle works within the Health Data Compliance team as a data analyst and proofreader. Michelle holds an Environmental Biology degree from Liverpool University. Following this she worked at a diagnostics company as Assistant Marketing Manager and obtained a Diploma in Marketing. Michelle then moved into the pharma industry where she gained 20 years of experience, initially in GP/hospital sales and then in key account management. Michelle worked on developing all aspects of key accounts at a multidisciplinary level in both pharma and medical devices, covering various disease areas. 
Michelle’s interest in training and education, as well as, a passion for detail led her into proofreading. Michelle is a member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders and she most recently spent 12 months at a medical communications company. In her role of data analyst, she combines her acute attention to detail with her relevant life sciences experience.

Gillian McGovern, Data Analyst and Proofreader

Gillian is engaged with the Health Data Compliance team as a data analyst and proofreader. She is primarily focused on assessing adherence of client data to HIPAA regulations. Gillian’s educational background is in Biology and she holds a PhD in Veterinary Pathology from the University of Edinburgh. Gillian has over 15 years’ experience in the field of Veterinary Pathology and Research with a Scientific publication record of over 40 peer reviewed papers. She also has experience of scientific proofreading and editing on a broader scale as a proofreader of academic journal submissions.

Deborah Fowlis, Data Analyst and Proofreader
Deborah works within the Health Data Compliance team as a data analyst and proofreader. She has a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Immunology, both from the University of Edinburgh. She subsequently worked in Glasgow (Institute of Medical Genetics) and Paris (Institut Cochin), researching models for human diseases/conditions such as psoriasis and carcinoma. During this time, she published and peer reviewed many articles in scientific journals. She currently works as a careers consultant with science and engineering undergraduates and postgraduates, while simultaneously working as a freelance proofreader for a range of publications.

Dianne Horberry, Data Analyst and Proofreader
Diane has 19+ years’ experience in the publishing industry, spending most of these working as a Senior Production Editor within the scientific, medical, and scholarly publishing sector. During this time Diane gained vast experience in editing and proofreading whilst working on several top-ranking life science journals ensuring the high standard of editorial quality and patient anonymity were maintained. More recently Diane has been working within an international maths institute running the editorial office of a mathematical journal for a learned society, whilst also working as a freelance editor and proofreader.

Georgia Laval, Data Analyst and Proofreader
​Georgia works within the Health Data Compliance team as a data analyst and proofreader. She gained a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from Liverpool John Moores University, and later trained in publishing before starting a freelance editorial business. Clients have included authors and companies across a range of sectors, with a focus in recent years on market intelligence reports within the manufacturing and life science industries. Georgia is a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.

Thanasis Tsanas, External Data Scientist Consultant - University of Edinburgh
PhD, MSc, BSc, BEng, FHEA
Thanasis is a Chancellor’s Fellow in Data Science (tenured Assistant/Associate Professor) at the Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics, Medical School, University of Edinburgh. He comes from an engineering and mathematics background, and holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford. His areas of expertise are time-series analysis, signal processing, and statistical machine learning, with applications in healthcare.
As an external data scientist consultant to Mirador Analytics, he brings expertise on data analytics, statistical analysis, protected health information (PHI) disclosure and anonymity, and compliance to HIPAA.

Chris Watson, Head of IT and Strategy Director

Chris has 20+ years’ experience within the pharmaceutical sector, building processes and tools for strategic evaluation or to enhance efficiency. Areas of commercial drug development expertise include: Market Research, Forecasting, Finance and Supply, CRM, SFE, Targeting, Marketing Strategy, and Product Launch. While partnering with BD, Development, Finance, IT, Marketing, Sales and Supply for projects.
In his role as Head of IT, Chris works on coordinating Security and IT support within Mirador. As Strategy director, he also leads our forecasting and insight projects work on pricing analysis, data insight and assumption gathering, and modelling disease flow across a range of therapeutic areas and regions.

Samantha has 20+ years’ experience within the pharmaceutical industry spanning R&D, UK sales and global marketing. With a strong track record in developing global brand strategy from early development to post-patent expiry including launch planning and late life cycle management Sam has a broad expertise to provide strategic input to support brand commercialisation, portfolio prioritisation and business development.
